To make sure your meeting is a comfortable, safe and inviting place for all, we require participants to use the following guidelines.
What is said in the meeting, stays in the meeting
This is an important way to keep the meeting private for everyone.
It's okay if we don’t all agree.
We can each have our own opinions.
Use the word "I" when you are talking
Use your own experience, say "this is what helped me" or "when I was faced with this problem, I ...." Don't tell someone what to do unless they ask you for your ideas.
It's okay not to talk
You don't need to say anything in our meetings. They can still be helpful to you, even if you just want to listen.
Everyone should make the group a safe place to talk about our problems
Treat each other with respect and kindness. Show that you care, and don't repeat what you hear outside of the meeting.
One person speaks at a time
Each person should be allowed to speak and be heard by the rest of the group.
Share the meeting time
Everyone who wants to talk should be able to. No one should hog the group's time.
Say your most important idea first
Make sure others understand what you are saying. Try to keep what you say short so others can have an opportunity to speak.
The group leader may ask you to finish up what you are saying
This is to make sure that meeting works well for everyone.
