Learn How to Recover

We put a brief education segment into each of our meetings. Our Road to Recovery topic series focuses on helping you to learn more about how to get well and stay that way. In addition all of our meetings have ample time for discussion and support.

Our research-based Depression Recovery Model can help you with your personal journey. It shows our whole series of sixteen topics. Topics are divided into two groups:

DRG Road to Recovery Model
These are the essential skills that can help you to regain energy, begin to feel better and put in place important basic habits. The research on depression treatment and our experience has shown that these five topics will help you establish a strong beginning.

These foundational skills will help you to effectively deal with some of the most universally important depression issues. They can be particularly helpful if this is your first bout of depression, have had several bouts or if you have not found anything yet that is helpful to you.

Once you have put in place some basic skills and practices you will then be better able to broaden and deepen your approach. Topics in this group provide the opportunity to learn additional long term, healthy practices that will keep you in charge and moving ahead as you fully recover. These topics promote lifelong healthy behaviors and habits that will help you to lead a more productive and depression-free life.

Over time it can be useful to explore all of our 16 topics to learn everything you can about good depression recovery skills. People who achieve and maintain recovery usually put into practice several things that work particularly well for them. We give you the opportunity to explore a variety of options, perhaps learn more about them and help and encourage others to also do so.

Our engaging video-based groups provide self-help education and peer support. Led by a Certified Peer Specialist, these meeting are confidential and anonymous. You choose how involved you would like to be. If you don't feel comfortable talking - it's ok to just listen.

Group Meeting: Women's Postpartum
This group is for mothers who have experienced or are experiencing postpartum depression, “the baby blues” or the anxiety that often is also present. A lot of women suffer with these issues – you don’t have to be alone. Join with an experienced facilitator and other women who understand what you are going through. You will learn about how these issues commonly impact women and importantly the things you can do to find relief.

Women's Depression Support Group
Women often have a very different experience with depression than do men. More women report that they are depressed and often they are more forthcoming about the emotions and issues they experience. Come join this women's only group. Share with other women. Learn from other women. Support yourself and others as you move toward recovery.

Group Meeting: Faith Based Group
The spiritual dimension of recovery can be very powerful indeed. This group explores how our spiritual experiences strengthen and inspire us to regain hope in our lives. It is open to people of all faiths as well as those who do not affiliate with a formal religion.

Group Meeting: Teen & College Age Group
If you are between the ages of 16 and 24, then this group is just for you. When you're depressed, you may feel like no one understands. But depression in teens and young adults is more common than you may think. You are not alone and your depression is not hopeless.

Group Meeting: Bereavement Group
We have all encountered a loss of a loved one or close friend, a loss of a career, a pet, time, a home or other types of loss, at some point in our lives. This means you are not alone in your feelings that led you to this group. Participants in this group will learn how to come to grasp with their loss (or terminal news of a pending loss) and know that their feelings are normal. We will also discuss when grief becomes a more serious psychological disorder and when to get outside professional help. Part of the group will be an educational segment, including topics on self-help, the stages of grief, how to find the right individual to talk to, and how to recognize when depression caused by the loss is surfacing.

Group Meeting: Medical Students
Being a medical student is tough. Long hours, high academic standards and competitive pressure create an inordinate amount of stress and a higher than usual rate of depression. Many med students don't feel comfortable admitting to having problems - especially a psychological issue like depression. This group is a confidential way for med students to find support and jointly review evidence-based self-help material. This group follows the Therapeutic Lifestyle Change protocol (Ilardi, 2009) which has been shown to significantly reduce depressive symptoms and support long term recovery.

One-on-One Coaching
Our One-on-One Depression Recovery Coaching is a way for you to work more intensively toward achieving and maintaining a healthier life. In our One-on-One sessions, you will meet with a certified peer specialist or recovery coach of your choosing. There will be no other participants ... just you and your coach.
